Premier Energies Expands to 10.6 GW, Becomes India’s Largest Solar Cell Manufacturer

Premier Energies Ltd announced on Monday that it has commissioned a 7 GW N‑type TOPCon G12R solar cell manufacturing plant at Naidupeta, Andhra Pradesh, bringing its total cell capacity to 10.6 GW by the end of Q2 FY27. The company’s cell capacity had been 3 GW at the close of Q1 FY27, while its module capacity stood at 11 GW at the same period, positioning it as a key player in India’s renewable‑energy ecosystem. Shares closed 2.5 % higher on Friday at ₹902 on the NSE and have delivered over 6.5 % YTD returns in 2026, though they have declined 14 % over the trailing twelve months.

The 7 GW facility is built for high‑throughput, capable of producing approximately 88,000 solar cells per hour. It incorporates advanced digital systems and artificial intelligence support for pre‑predictive performance analysis, aimed at improving throughput, consistency and operating efficiency. With the new plant, Premier Energies now operates at 92 % capacity utilisation for its solar cell segment and 63 % for its module segment, reflecting a significant scaling of its manufacturing footprint.

Mr. Chiranjeev Saluja, Managing Director of Premier Energies, said the commissioning of India’s largest solar cell manufacturing facility on time and within budget is an important execution milestone. He added that the company remains positive on the outlook for orders, pricing and demand for high‑efficiency solar products. As of Q1 FY27, the company’s total order book stood at 9,867 MW worth ₹15,000 crore, after securing over ₹3,300 crore new orders in that quarter, with solar cells accounting for 58 % of the book, modules 40 % and transformers and others over 2 %.

Beyond its cell and module plants, Premier Energies is developing additional facilities: a 10 GW ingot wafer plant, an 18,000 MT aluminium frame plant and a 12 GWh battery energy storage system plant, all under construction. These expansions aim to diversify the company’s product portfolio and support the growing demand for integrated renewable solutions. The company’s current operating utilisation rates—92 % for cells and 63 % for modules—highlight its efficient scaling, while the new facilities are expected to further increase overall production capacity.

India’s solar power generation has risen sharply, from over 40 TWh in 2019 to 160 TWh in 2025, and it has already crossed 100 TWh in the first half of 2026. Solar power’s share in incremental generation jumped to 25 % for the 2017‑2025 period. The sector’s growth is driven by household, industrial demand and the rapid expansion of data centres, with India’s 1.9 GW current data‑centre capacity and an expected 4.5 GW under development projected to drive 24 GW of solar power demand by 2030, according to KPMG India.
