NSE Shares Drop Below IPO Price Amid Global Market Pressures

NSE shares fell as much as 1.77% to an intraday low of ₹1,761, trading below the initial public offering price of ₹1,785. The decline mirrored a broader weak trend in Indian equity markets, with the benchmark indices nosediving. The fall was driven by selling pressure that saw NSE shares slide to a low of ₹1,761, reflecting the market’s overall downturn and investor caution.

The selling pressure on NSE shares was mirrored by losses in other capital‑market related companies such as AngelOne, Nippon Asset Management, BSE, HDFC AMC, Nuvama, 360 One Wam, CDSL and Groww. The index measuring capital‑market related companies on the NSE fell over 2% to an intraday low of 5,136.80, underscoring the sector‑wide weakness.

The market downturn was triggered by a crash in benchmark indices, compounded by already subdued investor sentiment due to surging bond yields in the United States and rising crude prices. Further erosion of confidence came after Maharashtra declared a drought in the state, adding to the negative sentiment surrounding equities. Rising bond yields in the U.S. and continuous FII outflows in September also added to weak sentiment for capital market stocks.

Brent crude futures for delivery in November rose 3.5% to $108 per barrel on Monday, following U.S. President Donald Trump’s rejection of an Iran peace deal aimed at resolving the conflict and reopening the Strait of Hormuz. Trump said in a phone interview with Axios on Sunday that he expected U.S. negotiators to engage in more talks this week, keeping tensions in West Asia elevated, as reported by Reuters.

NSE shares opened for trading at ₹1,800 last week, marking a premium of 0.84% over the IPO price. The IPO was subscribed 5.71 times, with bids for 50,58,11,384 shares against 8,86,42,911 shares on offer. The ₹22,561.57 crore IPO was an offer‑for‑sale of 12.64 crore shares by existing shareholders including Bank of Baroda, State Bank of India, SBI Capital Markets, Canada Pension Plan Investment Board, Aranda Investments (Mauritius), New India Assurance Company, Stock Holding Corporation of India, MS Strategic (Mauritius), General Insurance Corporation of India and United India Insurance Company.
