Zydus, Engineers India, Raymond Hit 52‑Week Highs Amid Market Sell‑Off

On 28 September 2026, Zydus Lifesciences, Engineers India and Raymond were among the ten stocks that reached a fresh 52‑week high, despite a broader market sell‑off that saw 91 equities touch year‑highs. The three companies were highlighted in the NSE data as the most prominent performers on a day when the benchmark indices fell sharply. Their gains stood out against a backdrop of declining sentiment, elevated US Treasury yields, foreign institutional selling and rising crude prices that weighed on the market.

The NIFTY50 benchmark fell 1.43% or 332.95 points to an intraday low of 22,807.55, compared with 23,140.50 at the previous close, according to NSE data. The BSE SENSEX declined 1.43% or 1,063.66 points, touching a low of 72,832.08 versus 73,895.74 at the prior close, also sourced from NSE. Both indices were dragged down by underperforming heavyweight stocks, particularly in the banking sector, as investors reacted to the combination of higher US Treasury yields, FII outflows and a spike in global crude prices.

Banking stocks were the biggest laggards, dragging the sectoral benchmark indices. Shares of YES Bank, Union Bank of India, IDFC First Bank, Canara Bank and Punjab National Bank fell sharply, contributing to the overall decline. Despite the sell‑off, 91 stocks managed to hit their 52‑week highs on 28 September, a rare occurrence amid a market that was largely negative. The surge in year‑highs was driven by a handful of companies that outperformed the broader index.

The top ten stocks that reached a 52‑week high on 28 September were: Zydus Lifesciences at ₹1,228.60, Welspun Corp. at ₹2,838, SPR Auto Technologies at ₹4,843, Engineers India at ₹321.40, SEDEMAC Mechatronics at ₹3,595, Shreeji Shipping Global at ₹761.90, Pearl Global Industries at ₹1,357.90, Dynamatic Technologies at ₹13,500, Raymond at ₹1,236 and Sunflag Iron & Steel at ₹451.70. Their five‑day returns ranged from 4.9% to 26.8%, while one‑month gains spanned 2.2% to 92.9%, highlighting the volatility within the group.

Zydus Lifesciences shares rose 2% to hit an intraday and fresh 52‑week high of ₹1,228.60 after the United States Food and Drug Administration concluded its inspection at the company’s New Jersey office with zero observations. The FDA’s on‑site inspection focused on the company’s pharmacovigilance and post‑marketing surveillance system. The positive outcome was reflected in the share price, which climbed to the year‑high level on Monday’s trading session, as reported by NSE data.

Welspun Corp. touched a fresh 52‑week high of ₹2,838, before investors booked profits amid a surge in oil prices, causing the stock to fall 4.2% to an intraday low of ₹2,713.20 on the same day. The metal manufacturer has gained 240% YTD in 2026. Engineers India shares surged to ₹321.40, with trading volumes exceeding 8.5 million shares as investors focused on the company’s Q2 earnings. The trading window for key personnel will close from 1 October, following a partnership with Africa’s Dangote Group to expand the Dangote Refinery and Petrochemical Complex.
