Draft National Steel Policy Sparks Focus on Tata Steel, JSW, SAIL, Jindal Steel, NMDC

The government’s release of the draft National Steel Policy Vision 2047 has put Tata Steel, JSW Steel, SAIL, Jindal Steel and NMDC on the radar of investors and market watchers. The policy, aimed at boosting crude steel production capacity to 604 million tonnes, per‑capita steel consumption to 302 kg and steel exports to 45 million tonnes by 2047, is now open for stakeholder consultation. The policy also seeks to strengthen domestic raw‑material security, reduce import dependence and increase the share of high‑value steel in the country’s output, potentially supporting long‑term growth prospects for steelmakers and iron ore miners, although the impact will depend on policy implementation and demand conditions.

The domestic stock market is expected to open higher on Monday, October 12, with GIFT NIFTY futures indicating that the NIFTY50 index will open 11 points higher. In addition to the steel sector, earnings announcements are slated for up to 18 companies today, including HCL Technologies, ICICI Prudential Asset Management Company, RBL Bank, Swaraj Engines, Agri‑Tech (India) and Adroit Industries (India). These earnings releases are likely to influence market sentiment and trading volumes across the index.
