Gift NIFTY Futures Decline Signals Lower Opening for Indian Markets

The NIFTY futures at Gift City in Gandhinagar fell 72 points to 22,762, indicating a likely lower opening for Indian equity benchmarks on Wednesday, October 14. The decline came amid mixed cues from global markets, notably as crude oil futures surged above $106 per barrel. This follows a session where the NIFTY and SENSEX posted their best single‑day gains in six months, buoyed by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman’s remarks at the Bloomberg New Economy Forum about long‑term capital gains tax.

Asian equities opened higher as the chip selloff that rattled markets eased on Wednesday. Japan’s Nikkei advanced 0.6%, China’s Shanghai Composite gained 0.15%, Hong Kong’s Hang Seng traded flat, and South Korea’s KOSPI surged 1.4%. The gains were capped by the rise in oil prices, which lifted Brent crude futures for December delivery to nearly $107 per barrel after reports of an attack on Saudi Aramco’s administrative office in Dhahran.

Overnight, U.S. stocks closed lower on Tuesday as chip stocks added to recent losses and investors parsed mixed quarterly results from Citigroup and other major U.S. banks, Reuters reported. The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 0.35%, the S&P 500 declined 0.02%, and the tech‑heavy Nasdaq slipped 0.15%. These movements reflect continued volatility in global equity markets amid uncertain macroeconomic data.

Back home, investors will focus on September quarter earnings from several listed firms, including BHEL, Canara Bank, Ceat, Groww, ICICI Lombard General Insurance, MRPL, and Tata Technologies. Tata Elxsi, a design and technology services provider, reported a marginal drop of 0.2% in its net profit to ₹170 crore for the quarter ended September 30, 2026 (Q2 FY27), compared to ₹170.6 crore in the previous quarter. Its revenue from operations rose 3.4% QoQ to ₹1,056 crore, up from ₹1,021 crore, with a 2.3% increase in constant currency terms.

Brent crude futures for December delivery surged close to $107 per barrel after reports of an attack on Saudi Aramco’s administrative office in Dhahran, which caused a limited fire, as the Energy Ministry confirmed. The spike in oil prices has weighed on Asian equity gains, while global market sentiment remains mixed. Indian markets are expected to open lower on Wednesday, October 14, with the NIFTY futures at Gift City trading at 22,762, down 72 points from the previous close.
