Tata Power and Adani Power Shares Rise on Positive Business Updates
Shares of Tata Power and Adani Power rose on Wednesday, October 14, with Tata Power climbing 2.31% to ₹353 per share on the NSE and Adani Power surging 5.92% to ₹196.98. The gains followed the companies’ release of separate business updates, sending both stocks into positive territory. Investors noted the upward movement as a reflection of the latest operational announcements from each firm, which highlighted new opportunities and contractual wins in the power sector. Tata Power’s announcement highlighted its emerging role as a preferred partner for India’s fast‑growing data centre ecosystem, with a diversified opportunity pipeline exceeding 2.8 GW across renewable energy, transmission and distribution.
Tata Power said it is expanding beyond power supply to offer a broader range of solutions for hyperscalers and advanced data centre facilities. Its portfolio now includes powered land, transmission and grid connectivity, renewable energy, energy storage, cooling and utility infrastructure. The company’s data centre opportunity pipeline comprises approximately 430 MW of upcoming load under its distribution network, 1,236 MW of transmission‑linked opportunities and 1,150 MW of green energy capacity under active engagement. With 29 active workstreams involving 18 leading global and domestic data centre operators, Tata Power is playing a role in developing some of India’s largest hyperscale and AI‑ready digital infrastructure projects.
Adani Power announced it had received a Letter of Award from Uttarakhand Power Corporation Limited (UPCL) to supply 1,234 MW of net power on an ex‑bus basis from a thermal power project with an installed capacity of 1,320 MW. The award follows the company’s declaration as the successful bidder in a tender issued by UPCL. The power supply will be governed by a long‑term Power Supply Agreement (PSA). The Letter of Award is subject to approval from the Uttarakhand Electricity Regulatory Commission for the adoption of the tariff under Section 63 of the Electricity Act, 2003.
Tata Power is slated to release its financial results for the second quarter of the financial year 2026‑27 (Q2 FY27) on November 11. In an exchange filing, the company said a meeting of the Board of Directors will be held on Wednesday, November 11, 2026, to consider inter alia: i) the Audited Financial Results (Standalone) and ii) Unaudited Consolidated Financial Results of the Company for the quarter and half‑year ended September 30, 2026. The company also noted that its arm, Tata Power Renewable Energy, delivered a strong execution performance in Q2 FY27, commissioning 419 MW of utility‑scale projects, representing over 130 % year‑on‑year growth compared to the 182 MW of utility‑scale capacity executed during the corresponding quarter of the previous fiscal year.
The positive market reaction to the two companies’ announcements underscores investor confidence in their strategic initiatives. Tata Power’s focus on the burgeoning data‑centre market and its diversified renewable, transmission and distribution pipeline appears to have resonated with traders, while Adani Power’s new long‑term supply contract with UPCL signals a strengthening of its thermal generation portfolio. Together, the two firms’ updates contributed to a broader uptick in the power sector’s performance on the NSE during the session for today.
