ICICI Bank Q2 FY27 Profit Climbs 20% to ₹14,843 Crore Amid Rising Interest Income

ICICI Bank, India’s second‑largest private sector lender, reported a 20.1% year‑on‑year rise in its standalone net profit for the July‑to‑September quarter of FY27, reaching ₹14,843 crore, up from ₹12,359 crore in the same period a year earlier. The increase was largely driven by a 17.6% jump in interest income, which rose to ₹49,110 crore from ₹41,757 crore in the corresponding quarter of FY26. Despite the higher earnings, the bank’s net interest margin fell by 12 basis points to 4.18% from 4.30% in the prior year’s quarter.

Net interest income (NII) improved by 17.7% YoY to ₹25,339 crore in Q2 FY27, compared with ₹21,529 crore in Q2 FY26. However, operating expenses rose 14% during the quarter, exerting pressure on margins. The bank’s net interest margin (NIM) declined to 4.18% from 4.30% in the same quarter of the previous fiscal year, reflecting the combined effect of higher interest income and increased cost base.

Asset quality showed a notable improvement, with gross non‑performing assets (NPAs) falling 38 basis points to 1.20% in the September quarter of FY27, down from 1.58% in the previous year’s September quarter. The bank wrote off ₹1,592 crore (US$166 million) of gross NPAs in Q2‑2027, and the provisioning coverage ratio on non‑performing loans stood at 75.0% as of September 30, 2026. Provision for bad loans decreased nearly 7% to ₹850.69 crore from ₹914.11 crore a year earlier.

ICICI Bank’s share price closed 0.55% higher at ₹1,397 on Monday, October 19, following the release of the September quarter earnings. The stock had ended the previous trading session at ₹1,389.40. Investors are closely watching the bank’s earnings report, as the company’s market capitalisation was over ₹10.03 lakh crore at the close on Friday, October 16, 2026.

Over the last five years, ICICI Bank shares have delivered a 92% return to investors, while the last three‑year period saw a 46% gain. The stock has declined 1.4% over the past year, but has risen 4.4% year‑to‑date in 2026 and 2.8% in the past month. In the last five market sessions, the share price has increased more than 3% and reached a 52‑week high of ₹1,480 on July 20, 2026, with a low of ₹1,187.60 on April 2, 2026.

The bank’s earnings report highlights that interest income growth and improved asset quality are key drivers of profitability, while margin pressure remains a concern due to rising expenses. Investors will likely focus on the bank’s ability to sustain higher interest income and manage cost growth, as well as its ongoing efforts to strengthen asset quality and provisioning coverage in the coming quarters.
