YES Bank Q2 Earnings: Net Profit Rises 65% to ₹1,080 Crore; NII Advances 23%

YES Bank announced that its net profit for the September quarter rose 65% to ₹1,080 crore, up from ₹654 crore in the same period last year. The increase was driven by lower provisions and contingencies, which fell 24% to ₹317 crore from ₹419 crore. The bank’s net interest income also climbed 23% to ₹2,822 crore, compared with ₹2,301 crore a year earlier.

Asset quality improved as gross non-performing assets (NPAs) as a percentage of total advances fell to 1.2% from 1.6% year‑ago. Net NPAs stood at 0.2%, while gross NPAs were ₹3,875 crore versus ₹4,055 crore. The bank highlighted that it is evaluating the implications of a Supreme Court judgment on Additional Tier‑1 Bonds amounting to ₹8,415 crore, issued in March 2020 during its reconstruction.

YES Bank said it is also evaluating legal remedies, including further proceedings that may be maintainable before the Hon'ble Supreme Court. It added that pending completion of this evaluation and determination of consequential actions and appropriate accounting treatment, the potential financial impact arising from the judgment has not been recognised in the books of account or incorporated in the reported financial results for the quarter and half‑year ended September 30, 2026.

Net interest income, the difference between interest earned on loans and expended on deposits, rose 23% to ₹2,822 crore from ₹2,301 crore a year earlier. This rise in NII contributed to the overall profit increase, as provisions and contingencies fell 24% to ₹317 crore from ₹419 crore. The bank also reported a net profit of ₹1,080 crore, up 65% from ₹654 crore.

Shares of YES Bank fell 3.2% to close at ₹17.57 a day ahead of its earnings announcement. The announcement was released on Saturday, 17 October, and the shares closed at ₹17.57, reflecting market reaction to the updated financials and the ongoing legal assessment of the Supreme Court judgment. The market reaction followed the bank's disclosure of its financial performance and the ongoing evaluation of the Supreme Court judgment.
