Tata Consumer Products Shares Rise 7% After Q2 Profit Surge and Volume Growth
Tata Consumer Products reported that its consolidated net profit attributable to owners rose 16% year‑on‑year to ₹469 crore in the July‑September quarter of FY27, up from ₹404 crore in the same period a year earlier. The fast‑moving consumer goods company also posted a 14% YoY increase in core operations revenue, reaching ₹5,661 crore versus ₹4,966 crore previously. Earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation climbed 16.5% to ₹783 crore from ₹672 crore a year earlier. Shares rallied 6.7%, touching an intraday high of ₹999.50 on Tuesday, October 27.
Operating profit margins expanded 62 basis points to 11.13% in the quarter, compared with 10.51% a year earlier, while EBITDA margins grew 31 basis points to 13.83% from 13.52% last year. Net profit margins rose to 8.3% in the period, compared with 8.19% a year earlier. Managing Director and CEO Sunil D’Souza said the company delivered a second consecutive quarter of double‑digit revenue growth in FY27, backed by strong underlying volume growth in India and disciplined execution that drove 18% EBITDA growth in the Indian market.
On the segmental front, domestic business revenue advanced 17.4%, while international business income grew 6.4% in the quarter under review compared with the corresponding period a year earlier. The company highlighted that its portfolio transformation continues to gain momentum, with growth businesses expanding 40% and now accounting for 38% of the India business, according to D’Souza. This shift reflects a strategic focus on higher‑margin categories and a broader product mix aimed at sustaining long‑term growth in the current fiscal year.
Goldman Sachs analysts praised the company for strong double‑digit volume growth and high‑teens EBITDA growth amid a challenging environment, expecting pricing to accelerate significantly in the India business in the second half of FY27. They noted that the salt business continues to report robust growth, with price increases expected to further accelerate revenue growth in H2, while tea performance remained muted but is projected to recover later in the year. Jefferies analysts said the Q2 performance exceeded expectations despite inflationary pressures in tea and salt, highlighting that product price hikes should support growth ahead. Citi analysts added that pricing actions across multiple categories have yet to fully reflect, which should help mitigate margin pressures in India.
At 10:47 AM, Tata Consumer Products shares were trading at ₹986 apiece on the National Stock Exchange, up 5.29% from the previous close. According to NSE data, the company’s market capitalisation stood at ₹97,579.28 crore. The intraday rally reflected investor confidence in the company’s volume‑led growth and margin recovery trajectory, as analysts highlighted the potential for pricing acceleration in the second half of the fiscal year. The stock’s performance also underscored the broader market optimism for FMCG firms navigating inflationary headwinds.
The company’s focus on portfolio transformation, with growth businesses now contributing 38% of the India business, aligns with its strategy to drive higher‑margin segments. Analysts anticipate that the continued price hikes, particularly in the salt segment, will support revenue growth in the second half, while tea is expected to rebound. Citi’s projection of a 50‑basis‑point expansion in EBITDA margin in H2 further reinforces confidence in the company’s ability to recover margins. Overall, Tata Consumer Products Q2 performance demonstrates resilience amid inflationary pressures and positions it for sustained growth in FY27.
