Ather Energy Shares Rise 543% Since Listing, Driven by Earnings and Market Share Gains
Ather Energy shares have risen 543% since their June 2025 listing at ₹321, reaching a record high of ₹1,744. The rally has continued for two consecutive days, with the stock up over 6% on Tuesday to trade at ₹1,673, about 5% below the peak. Investor optimism remains high despite rough market conditions, attributed to the company’s superior fundamentals and consistent growth across the board. The key catalyst for the two‑day rally was the quarterly earnings for the period ended September 2026, which turned the company profitable at the operational and bottom‑line level.
In the quarter, Ather Energy achieved a major milestone by turning positive, leading to a 14% jump in shares on Monday and sustaining the rally on Tuesday. The company’s YTD return in 2026 stands at 125%, while the trailing twelve‑month return is 128%. These figures underscore the stock’s performance in a short period, making it a favourite among investors this year. The earnings announcement highlighted robust financial health and operational turnaround, reinforcing market confidence.
Market share gains have been significant. Electric two‑wheeler sales rose from 1.5 lakh to over 1 million units in five years, with Ather capturing 14.7% market share in September 2026 and maintaining about 17% in Q1FY27. While traditional players like TVS Motors and Bajaj Auto gained larger shares, Ather remained consistently in the third spot. The company outpaced peers such as Ola Electric, which faced operational headwinds, strengthening its competitive position.
Operational efficiency has been a strategic focus. Ather narrowed its operating loss from ₹283 crore in FY24 to ₹69 crore in FY26, and turned profitable in Q2FY27 with a ₹11 crore profit. This was achieved through consistent double‑digit sales growth of over 50% YoY for six consecutive quarters, while material costs fell from over 83% in Q2FY25 to ~79% in Q2FY27. Employee benefit expenses also dropped from 19% to ~8%, underscoring disciplined cost management before pursuing growth.
Capacity expansion supports the company’s growth trajectory. The Hosur plant currently has an installed capacity of 4.2 lakh units per annum, operating at 98% and near full utilisation. Ather plans to expand to 1.14 million units by FY28, adding 6.5 lakh units at a new plant in Chatrapati Sambhajinagar and an additional 75,000 units at Hosur. This expansion aims to meet rising demand in the fast‑growing electric two‑wheeler market.
Overall, Ather Energy’s share price performance reflects its superior fundamentals, market share resilience, operational efficiency, and strategic capacity expansion. The stock’s 125% YTD return in 2026 and 128% trailing twelve‑month return, coupled with a 543% gain since listing, highlight its strong investor appeal. Despite market volatility, the company’s consistent growth and profitability have sustained high investor optimism, positioning Ather as a leading player in India’s electric mobility sector.
