Vedanta Q2 FY27: Record Revenue, Net Profit Declines 33% QoQ

Vedanta, led by Anil Agarwal, announced on 28 October that its quarterly revenue for the period ended 30 September FY27 reached a record ₹25,812 crore, up 57% year‑on‑year. The mining conglomerate reported a consolidated net profit of ₹3,650 crore for the quarter, a 33% decline from the ₹5,473 crore earned in the previous quarter. The company’s net profit for the year to date stood at ₹11,496 crore, a 151% rise year‑on‑year, while its half‑yearly revenue hit ₹49,268 crore, up 54% year‑on‑year. The company’s net debt fell to ₹3,675 crore, a sequential reduction of ₹4,624 crore, driven primarily by cash flow from operations.

Revenue from operations dropped 9% quarter‑on‑quarter to ₹26,356 crore, compared with ₹24,205 crore in Q1 FY27. Despite the revenue decline, operating profit, or EBITDA, rose 17% to ₹9,915 crore from ₹8,501 crore in the previous quarter. EBITDA margin expanded to 37.6% in Q2 FY27 from 35.1% in Q1 FY27. The firm also posted its best‑ever quarterly EBITDA of ₹9,938 crore, up 106% year‑on‑year, and quarterly profit after tax (PAT) reached a record ₹6,202 crore, rising 151% year‑on‑year.

Vedanta generated free cash flow before capex of ₹5,803 crore in Q2 FY27, up from ₹4,412 crore in Q1 FY27, taking cumulative H1 FY27 free cash flow to ₹10,215 crore. The company invested ₹1,135 crore in growth capex during Q2 FY27, bringing cumulative investment for H1 FY27 to ₹2,283 crore. Management highlighted record mined metal production of 271 kt and record 1H mined metal production for the sixth consecutive year, alongside best‑ever 1H refined metal production at Zinc India. The successful commissioning of Gamsberg Phase II at Zinc International and record chrome ore production were also noted.

Executive Director Arun Misra said the company’s milestones reflected the strength of its diversified asset base and its continued focus on volume growth, cost leadership and creating value for all stakeholders. He added that Vedanta invested ₹1,135 crore in growth projects, advancing capacity expansions, mine development and resource security initiatives across its portfolio. The firm’s record quarterly cathode production at Copper India and 100% ore procurement at FACOR were also highlighted as key operational achievements.

Vedanta’s demerger scheme became effective on 1 May 2026, with the stock trading on a post‑demerger basis from 30 April 2026. Under the scheme, shareholders received one share each in the four demerged entities for every Vedanta Ltd share held as of the record date. The four resulting companies—Vedanta Aluminium Metal, Vedanta Power, Vedanta Oil and Gas, and Vedanta Iron and Steel—were listed and began trading on the NSE and BSE on 15 June 2026, completing the group’s restructuring. The rationale behind the demerger was to create focused, sector‑specific businesses and simplify Vedanta’s corporate structure.

The company’s financial performance in Q2 FY27 demonstrates a mix of record revenue growth and a significant decline in net profit, while operating metrics such as EBITDA and margin improved. Free cash flow and investment in growth capex indicate a continued emphasis on capital allocation and expansion. The demerger has positioned Vedanta’s businesses as separate listed entities, potentially allowing each to pursue its own growth strategy and capital allocation. Overall, Vedanta’s Q2 FY27 results reflect both operational achievements and strategic corporate restructuring aimed at long‑term value creation.
