Suzlon Energy Shares Fall to 52‑Week Low as EBITDA Margin Guidance Revised
Suzlon Energy’s shares fell 10% to ₹33.23 on Friday, October 30, reaching a 52‑week low after the company reported a 69% drop in consolidated net profit for Q2 FY27. The earnings miss prompted a sharp decline in the stock, reflecting investor disappointment with the quarter’s performance. The share price movement underscored market sensitivity to the company’s earnings outlook and margin guidance for the full fiscal year.
The company posted a consolidated net profit of ₹394 crore for Q2 FY27, compared with ₹1,279 crore in the same period last year. This decline coincided with a 26% rise in revenue from operations to ₹4,875 crore, up from ₹3,871 crore YoY. Despite higher sales, the profit contraction highlighted challenges in cost management and margin pressure during the quarter.
Suzlon’s EBITDA for Q2 FY27 was ₹719 crore, marginally lower than ₹721 crore in the corresponding quarter of the previous fiscal year. The EBITDA margin contracted to 14.7% from 18.6% YoY. Revenue growth of 26% was offset by higher operating costs, leading to a narrower margin. The company’s operational performance showed a mix of revenue expansion and margin compression in the July‑September period.
Management revised the FY27 EBITDA margin guidance to 15–16%, down from the earlier 17%. Suzlon also reported that its net worth has crossed ₹10,000 crore. The order book stood at over 6 GW, with record H1 FY27 deliveries and an intake of more than 1.5 GW. EPC projects now account for 38% of the order book, up from 22% in Q1 FY26, aiming for a 50% share by FY28.
Chief Financial Officer Rahul Jain said the company delivered 26% YoY revenue growth to ₹4,869 crore in Q2 FY27, with EBITDA of ₹720 crore, reflecting disciplined execution and operating leverage. He noted a deferred tax asset creation of ₹891 crore, which, when excluded, shows a stronger underlying profitability improvement. CEO Ajay Kapur highlighted record Q2 deliveries of 710 MW and commissioning of 454 MW, underscoring robust execution and a strong pipeline.
UBS analysts noted the lowered FY27 EBITDA margin guidance and highlighted that operating cash flow turned negative at ₹200 crore in the first half of FY27. They cut earnings per share estimates for FY27, FY28 and FY29 by 10%, 11% and 9% respectively, while retaining FY31 targets of around 40% market share and annual sales of approximately 10 GW. At 10:42 AM, shares traded at ₹33.84, down 8.02%, with a year‑to‑date decline of nearly 36% and a six‑month slip of 39%.
