Jio Platforms Shares Drop 2.4% Ahead of Q2 Earnings, Investors Await Key Metrics
Jio Platforms shares fell 2.4% intraday on Friday, October 30, as investors awaited the July to September quarter earnings report for fiscal year 2026-27. The stock slid to an intraday low of ₹1,386.80 from ₹1,421.60 at the previous close. By 11:48 am (IST) the shares had recovered most of the loss, trading around ₹1,420, a 0.11% decline. Trading volumes exceeded 16.7 million equity shares across NSE and BSE, reflecting heightened interest in the newly listed company that went public on Wednesday, October 28.
The July to September quarter results will be Jio Platforms' first quarterly disclosure after its mega ₹30,000 crore IPO. The board of directors will consider and approve both standalone and consolidated unaudited financial statements for the quarter. Results are expected after market hours on Friday, October 30, followed by an analyst meeting post‑board session to discuss the quarter and half‑year ended September 30, 2026. The meeting will also review key performance indicators and future outlook for the telecom and technology segments.
Investors will scrutinise average revenue per user (ARPU) changes, a telecom metric that measures revenue per customer. In Q1 FY27, Jio Platforms' ARPU rose to ₹215.60, driven by an improved subscriber mix and positive seasonality, partially offset by promotional schemes for fixed broadband customers. The company highlighted that promotional discounts were targeted at new broadband subscribers to accelerate market penetration, while existing users were offered loyalty incentives to maintain engagement levels.
Subscriber base metrics remain critical. Jio's 5G subscriber count stood at approximately 285 million users as of June 2026, with 5G data traffic nearly 1.5 times that of 4G. The total fixed broadband subscriber base was 28.6 million as of June 2026, adding about 8.6 million new users over the last 12 months. These figures underscore the company's focus on expanding high‑speed connectivity and maintaining a robust user base amid increasing competition in the Indian telecom market.
Revenue and profitability trends will be closely examined. In Q1 FY27, operating revenue grew 11.8% YoY, while profits rose 9.2%. EBITDA growth was partially offset by higher finance costs and increased depreciation due to 5G asset capitalisation. Investors will watch EBITDA margins, which expanded 150 basis points in the prior quarter, to gauge cost management and profitability. The company’s guidance on operating margins and net income will also be scrutinised to assess the sustainability of its earnings trajectory overall.
IPO investors have seen a 28% return since the listing on October 28, with the stock trading above ₹13.08 lakh crore market capitalisation and a free‑float market cap of ₹28,511 crore. The intraday low of ₹1,386.80 reflects market volatility ahead of the earnings announcement. Analysts will likely focus on subscriber growth, ARPU, and margin expansion to determine the company’s future valuation trajectory. The company’s performance will also be benchmarked against peers such as Airtel and Vodafone Idea to gauge competitive positioning in the telecom sector.
