JioStar Business Q2 FY27: PAT Falls 13%, MAUs Reach 440 Million
Reliance Industries’ JioStar Business posted a profit after tax of ₹1,147 crore for the second quarter of fiscal year 2026‑27, a decline of 13.2 % from ₹1,322 crore in the same period last year. The joint venture, formed after the merger of Reliance’s media arm with Walt Disney’s India business, recorded revenue from operations of ₹6,806 crore, up 10.1 % year‑on‑year to ₹6,179 crore. Growth was driven by stronger subscription revenue and digital entertainment advertisement revenue, despite a weak advertising environment.
Operating profit, or EBITDA, slipped 14 % to ₹1,502 crore from ₹1,738 crore in the same period of the previous fiscal year. The EBITDA margin contracted 600 basis points to 22.1 % from 28.1 % year‑on‑year. JioStar highlighted that its digital entertainment advertising revenue grew strongly, supported by higher monetisation on connected TVs (CTVs). Subscription revenue increased across both digital platforms and linear television, contributing to the overall revenue rise.
JioHotstar averaged around 440 million monthly active users (MAUs) during the quarter, marking a 10 % growth annually. The quarter also saw the relaunch and rebranding of JioStar’s digital destination as ‘JioHotstar’ in the international markets of Singapore, the UK and Canada. In a statement, the company said that mobile phone plan users were given streaming content (CTV) access, which brought incremental viewers to CTV.
The company reported a 15 % year‑on‑year growth in digital entertainment watch time, driven by Network GECs and original content. JioStar also showcased the strength of its sports portfolio, led by international cricket (England‑India), Wimbledon, the US Open and the ongoing Premier League season, which attracted additional viewership. TV Entertainment continued to dominate the market with the roll‑out of new shows across the spectrum of JioStar’s Hindi and regional channels.
On Friday, shares of Reliance Industries closed at ₹1,164.90 apiece on the National Stock Exchange, falling 0.21 %. As of October 30, the Mukesh Ambani‑led company has a market capitalisation of ₹15.76 lakh crore. The oil‑to‑telecom conglomerate’s flagship company, Reliance Industries, posted a 41 % year‑on‑year growth in consolidated net profits in the second quarter of FY27, with key support from the strong increase in revenues from the Oil to Chemicals (O2C) segment in the period.
